The Free Trade within Canada (Mutual Recognition) Act (Removed from Order Paper

Removed from Order Paper business labour government-accountability

Summary

This bill would require Saskatchewan regulatory bodies to automatically recognize certifications, licenses, and product approvals from other Canadian provinces and territories that have passed similar legislation. Goods and services approved in those reciprocating jurisdictions would be treated as meeting Saskatchewan standards without additional testing, fees, or approval processes.

Under this bill, if you hold a professional certification or business license from another province or territory that has passed matching legislation, Saskatchewan regulatory bodies would have to recognize it automatically without requiring you to meet separate Saskatchewan standards or pay additional fees. Similarly, products approved for sale in a reciprocating jurisdiction would be automatically approved in Saskatchewan. The bill excludes Crown corporations, professions already covered by Saskatchewan's labour mobility law, occupational health and safety requirements, government procurement, and any categories added by regulation. The mechanism only applies between Saskatchewan and jurisdictions that pass equivalent legislation. All goods and services remain subject to Saskatchewan laws that apply generally once they are in the province. The bill was introduced but removed from the order paper without passing.
