Government Bill · 30L2S · No. 45
The Co-operatives Consequential Amendments Act, 2025
Summary
This bill updates references to co-operative legislation across 20 Saskatchewan statutes, replacing citations to The Co-operatives Act, 1996 and The New Generation Co-operatives Act with references to The Co-operatives Act, 2025. The amendments are technical and do not change the substantive rights or obligations governed by the affected statutes.
When Saskatchewan passes a new major statute, existing laws that reference the old statute need updating. This bill makes those housekeeping changes across 20 different laws, from business corporations rules to residential tenancies, replacing references to the 1996 co-operatives law with references to the new 2025 version. The bill also makes minor technical adjustments to The Business Corporations Act, 2021, including changes to how corporations track individuals with significant control and how they handle share certificates. None of these changes alter what co-operatives or other regulated entities must do, they simply ensure the statute book refers to the correct, current legislation. The bill takes effect on the same day The Co-operatives Act, 2025 itself comes into force.
